Your privacy is important to us!
We place great emphasis on your privacy and ensure that your data is handled responsibly and confidentially. We collect and store only minimal data necessary for basic functionality. We do not share this data with third parties unless required by law (e.g., for authorities and government institutions). For data transmission, we use only encrypted connections and modern security measures according to the state of the art to protect your personal data at every stage.
What data is transferred by the LOC.id app?
Basic functionality (after installation)
With default settings, data is exchanged only with devices in your immediate vicinity, with a few exceptions. For example, to make orientation sounds at traffic lights louder or to trigger stop requests on trains.
For displaying points of interest (POIs) and location-based alerts (e.g., construction sites), an internet database is queried at irregular intervals. To reduce data volume, a very imprecise and anonymized location is transmitted (radius approx. 100 km).
Use of account functionality
For account functionality, only the necessary data for authentication and account management is transferred. This includes, among other things, your name, email address, and an encrypted password. This data is used solely for the authentication process and securely stored to protect your identity and enable access to your account.
After deleting your account, all data associated with your user account will be deleted. The data will be removed from live and backup systems no later than 180 days after deletion.
E-scooter alerts
For audible warnings from e-scooters, your account ID and a unique e-scooter serial number are transmitted to our servers (but no location data).
Verification and activation documents
If you upload verification documents and/or photos via the app, these will be temporarily stored on an internet server until processed by our internal support team. After processing, only the activation of functionalities is stored in your account. The original documents are deleted.
Use of the "Send Usage Statistics" option
If you enable the "Send Usage Statistics" option in the LOC.id app settings, the following data is collected anonymously and uploaded. This data is used exclusively by our developers for product improvements and bug fixes.
- Your approximate location
- Your IP address
- Statistics on connected nearby devices (firmware versions, signal strengths, connection protocols)
How is data transmitted by the LOC.id app?
To protect transmitted data, we use only cryptographically encrypted connections according to the latest technology standards (TLS 1.2++); this ensures that your data remains secure during transmission.
Why is location data access required for the LOC.id app on Apple devices?
On Apple devices (even without GPS usage), distance measurement to (Bluetooth) devices is technically tied to the "Location" system. This is not your precise location but simple distance values to devices nearby.
These data are only processed internally by the LOC.id apps and are not transmitted over the internet.
Privacy policy
With the following privacy policy, we aim to inform you about the types of your personal data (hereinafter also referred to as "data") we process, for which purposes, and to what extent within the scope of providing our apps. The terms used are not gender-specific.
Relevant legal bases
Below, we provide the legal bases of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on which we process personal data. Please note that, in addition to the GDPR regulations, national data protection provisions in your or our country of residence may apply. If specific legal bases are relevant in individual cases, we will inform you of these in the privacy policy.
National data protection regulations in Germany: In addition to the GDPR, national regulations for data protection in Germany apply. These include, in particular, the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG). The BDSG contains special regulations on the right to information, the right to deletion, the right to object, the processing of special categories of personal data, processing for other purposes, transmission, and automated decision-making in individual cases, including profiling. Furthermore, it regulates data processing for employment purposes (ยง 26 BDSG), particularly concerning the initiation, implementation, or termination of employment relationships, as well as employees' consent. Additionally, the data protection laws of individual federal states may apply.
Security measures
We take technical and organizational measures in accordance with legal requirements to ensure an appropriate level of protection, considering the state of the art, implementation costs, and nature, scope, context, and purposes of processing, as well as varying probabilities and severity of risks to individuals' rights and freedoms. These measures include securing data confidentiality, integrity, and availability by controlling physical and electronic access, as well as access, input, transfer, securing of availability, and separation of data. Furthermore, we have established procedures to ensure data subjects' rights, data deletion, and data threat responses. We also consider data protection in the design and selection of hardware, software, and processes according to the principles of data protection through technology design and privacy-friendly default settings.
